If it wasn't fall break, we would have had a snow day.

The totals: 100, 90, 50 and 40 pounds! Next summer we'll shoot for the 1,000!
We gathered in the fruits of our labor, the giant pumpkins from the front yard, before the first frost and put them in the garage. October 28th is our traditional day to carve pumpkins, yet we have around 8 inches of snow and it's still falling. So we moved the fun into the family room- after Kenneth went to bed.
On not letting Kenny be part of pumpkin carving: Chicken! (Actually, that was pretty wise.)
ReplyDeleteAs I was scrolling through the pictures, I actually thought, "Hmmm...those are big pumpkins. I wonder where they bought them." Then I remembered that you had GROWN the pumpkins.
They turned out great. Nice job.
BTW, what kind is the white one? Are the orange ones from seeds called "giant pumpkin"?
Oh, and how sad is it that you didn't get a snow day? That was the best part about living in Colorado...sitting by the radio waiting to hear your school district called out. Only now you'd just go online and get the info immediately.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pumpkins! The white one is really cool! We only got one regular sized one from our garden, so now the kids are fighting over who gets to carve it and who has to do the one bought at the store.
ReplyDeleteThe white pumpkin just didn't get enough hot summer to finish and turn orange. We had to bring it in before the frost killed it. It was such a cold summer. The variety? A guy at work gave us the seeds- he actually got 1,000 pound pumpkins the summer before- a much warmer summer too. The 100 pounder was super heavy, I'd hate to have to move 10 times the amount.
